Treatment and Techniques
Chiropractors use a wide range of techniques to treat the musculo-skeletal and nervous systems. This allows them to best suit the treatment strategies to each individual patient and their specific condition.
These techniques include:
- Spinal and joint manipulations or adjustments.
These manipulations are used when the spine or other joints in the body are dysfunctional causing compression or applying unwanted pressure on the nerves or surrounding structures causing pain and dysfunction. What the manipulations do is correct the dysfunctions in the spine or other joint.
There are multiple ways to manipulate a joint to correct its dysfunction. These include manual manipulations (HVLA), which involves applying a short, directed thrust gently into the joint, and low force techniques including using the activator and drop piece.
During the consult I discuss and decide with the patient which techniques they are comfortable with and suit them best.
Other techniques I incorporate into treatments include:
- Massage
-Trigger point therapy
- Stretching
- Myo-fascial release
- Dry needling
- Exercise prescription
- Advice
I think it is always important to work on both the joints and soft tissues (such as the muscles and ligaments) in the body to get the best results as they work in close relationship with each other.
Dry Needling
We also offer Dry Needling and will be offering it to our Chiropractic patients at
no extra charge during their treatment if we think it could be of benefit
and they think it is something they may be interested in.
Dry Needling uses a fine and flexible needle to release shortened bands of muscle
caused by abnormal functioning of the nervous system. NO drugs are injected.
Dry Needling can be an effective treatment for acute and chronic pain.
