Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a Chiropractors Qualification?
A: Australian chiropractors are a government registered and government regulated health professionals.
To become a registered chiropractor in Australia you must have studied an accredited 5-year chiropractic program conducted at a University within Australia, or have completed an accredited program overseas that satisfies the requirements set by the Australian Chiropractic Regulating authority.
A chiropractor’s education never ends. After entering practice, all chiropractors must complete continuing professional development courses and seminars to upgrade and improve their skills and to stay current on the latest scientific research.
Q: Is Chiropractic safe?
A: Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal complaints but no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. Some of these adverse effects includes minor discomfort or soreness following spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours, vertebral artery dissection (a type of stroke), disc injury, bruising and fracture. In comparison to other treatments available for the same condition, the risks of serious complications from spinal manipulation for conditions such as neck pain and headache compare very favorably with even the most conservative care options. For example, the risks associated with some of the most common treatments for musculoskeletal pain—over-the-counter or prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) and prescription painkillers—are significantly greater than those of chiropractic manipulation.
Q: Do I need a medical referral?
A: Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners therefore a referral is not necessary. However if a GP does refer you to a Chiropractor, they can do it via an Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC) which can entitle you to 5 bulk billed consults. Speak to your GP to see if you are eligible.
Q: Are you a bulk billing clinic?

A: No, not in all cases, but during your examination your chiropractor will determine if x-rays are required. If x-rays are necessary, the Chiropractor will give you a referral to have them taken. These costs are fully covered by Medicare. If you have had any spinal x-rays, bring them with you on your first visit as this will help.
Q: What is the popping sound?
A: Some adjusting techniques can produce a popping sound. This sound occurs due to a gas release from the joint. The sound isn’t a guide to the quality or need of the adjustment. There is a common misunderstanding that the popping noise is bones going back into place but this is not the case.
Q: Do the adjustments hurt?
A: An adjustment is not normally painful but in some cases, mild soreness to the area being adjusted may be experienced. This minor discomfort typically fades within 24 hours after the adjustment.

A: Yes. Many pregnant mums, new mums and babies receive chiropractic care. Our adjusting techniques are always adapted to a patient’s condition of health to provide the most suitable care.

Since significant trauma can occur at birth, many parents choose to have their newborns checked for any spinal health related problems, Chiropractic adjusting procedures are modified to suit such babies.
